Born Daniel Akpan Ekanem, our Inaugural Lecturer, Prof Daniel
Ekanem Ama-Abasi hails from Ikot Ifot-Ono in Ibiono Ibom Local
Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. His parents were Late Chief
Akpan Ekanem and Late Madam Obot Akpan Ekanem (Nee Obot
Obong Udo Etok.)
The last of fourteen (14) children, Prof Ama-Abasi attended P.C.N.
Primary School, Ono; Nigerian Christian Secondary School, Ukpom
Abak; Ibiono Community High School, Edem Urua, and University
of Calabar, Calabar, for his first, second and highest degrees. He also
had a short Course (Ohio Programme of Intensive English) at Ohio
University, Athens, U.S.A.
After the mandatory one-year N.Y.S.C. at Government Secondary
School, Gwarzo in Kano State, in 1985-86, our Inaugural Lecturer
had a stint in International Institute for Tropical Agriculture.(IITA),
Ibadan. He had another stint as Secondary School teacher with Akwa
Ibom State Secondary Education Board, until 1991, when he was
appointed Junior Research Fellow by the University of Calabar. He
rose through the ranks to become Professor in 2015, and serves in
that position till date. Between 1991 and now, he has also been
Visiting Scholar to University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA,
Visiting and Adjunct Scholar, Akwa Ibom State University, Obio
Akpan Campus, Visiting and Adjunct Scholar, University of Uyo,
Uyo, among others.
