EPIDEMIOLOGY OF NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

Communicable diseases continue to pose significant public health challenges globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where access to quality healthcare, sanitation, and health education remains limited. The transmission and resurgence of infectious agents viral, bacterial, parasitic, or fungal are further complicated by factors such as increased human mobility, rapid urbanization, climate change, and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. This textbook, Communicable Diseases, aims to equip students, healthcare professionals, and public health practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of the epidemiology, transmission, prevention, and control of communicable diseases. It offers a robust foundation in core epidemiological concepts, examines patterns of disease transmission, and underscores the critical roles of surveillance systems, policy interventions, and community engagement in managing outbreaks and endemic diseases. Organized into five thematic parts, the book covers: foundational principles of communicable disease epidemiology; in-depth analyses of major infectious diseases; prevention and control strategies; policy frameworks and ethical considerations; and current case studies with projections for future challenges.
